Hugo Shares a Tip on Potty Training Your Puppy

Potty training puppies can be hard on your carpet...

There are a few very easy steps to make life less stressful for you and your new pup while potty training. No more pushing the dogs nose in his puddle and telling him he's bad! No more chasing him or swatting him with a newspaper, no more yelling and confusion!

Hugo says, do yourself and your new best friend a big favor and try this smart tip.

Before you go to pick up your new puppy, a phone call will start the ball rolling. No doubt, if you contact the breeder, he or she will be happy to help you simply by putting newspaper into the area your pup is housed or shares with his siblings.

Take a ziplock along with you to put a couple sheets of the newspaper in and take it home.

Hugo's Mom did that and when they arrived at his 'new' home she put the newspaper on top of a puppy pad in close proximity to where he was spending most of his time. While bonding and getting Hugo used to his home, his Mom and Dad called him over to that spot a number of times to get a sniff. It smelled familiar and Hugo knew exactly where to do his business - every time.

It worked, the first step in potty training really worked - Hugo's Mom and Dad were so proud, not only of themselves for thinking of the idea, but because he was just so smart... and there is nothing more motivating than praise! Ask Hugo.

That is one of the cutest Hugo pictures I have ever seen. I love it.

Good tip too.
